Every year in August, BB’s Tex-Orleans looks forward to two special events. Houston Restaurant Weeks and White Linen Night in the Heights! There’s quite a bit of history behind these happenings, and we’re here to guide you through why we LOVE them so much!
Houston Restaurant Weeks has been going on since 2003, when Cleverley Stone, “The Diva of Dining”, decided it was her life’s mission to beat hunger in Houston. Her mantra was “Dine Out & Do Good”, and her efforts turned into an annual citywide boom in restaurant revenues and contributions to The Houston Food Bank. HRW is now the city’s largest annual fundraiser of its kind, having raised over $16.6 million for the Houston Restaurant Weeks Food Bank! This has given them the opportunity to distribute more than 50 million meals for food insecure families in and around the Houston area. After the passing of Cleverley Stone from cancer in May of 2020, her daughter, Katie Stone, is carrying on and growing her remarkable legacy. HRW takes place each year from August first through Labor Day, and will continue to support and serve the hungry people of Houston for years to come. BB’s Tex-Orleans LOVES to participate in HRW each year to do our part in Doing Good for our Community!!
White Linen Night originated in the Arts District of New Orleans. Long ago, before the days of air-conditioned vehicles, people needed a way to stay cool in the warmer months when traveling from place to place. They would do that by wearing light colored linen clothing because it would reflect the heat, which in turn made white linen a fashion staple among locals. Before White Linen Night was created, local New Orleans art galleries noticed the August tourism start to slow down. In order to combat this, and to showcase local summer fashion, White Linen Night was created and was first held in 1994. For a few hours on the first Saturday evening every August, hundreds of people stroll through the art galleries, where they showcase local art and provide opportunities to eat, dance, drink and shop along Julia Street. There’s always live music and dozens of food and drink stands, with an after-party which was traditionally held at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. Here in Houston, we have decided to bring this tradition to the Heights! Our White Linen Night is a bit different, as we don’t have as much shopping happening, but we use it as an evening of supporting local businesses in the Houston Heights to enjoy food, drinks, live music, FUN with our family and friends, and to show off our BEST White Linen fashions, of course! This year at BB’s Tex-Orleans, we will be partnering with Saint Arnold to bring you a great deal, where you can get any full sized poboy and an H-Town Pils for just $18! Groove to the sounds of Amin Safari while you enjoy food and cold drinks before heading out to the bars for the late-night parties. We’ll be at the corner of Studewood and White Oak where New Orleans Flavors and Texas Soul collide! We can’t wait to see you there!!
